Next year, a new “Street Fighter” movie hits theaters. But is it doomed to failure and ridicule, like the original “Street Fighter” film?
The guy who wrote and directed the 1994 “Street Fighter” flick, Steven E. de Souza, doesn’t think so.
Talking to our colleagues at the MTV Movies blog, de Souza expressed confidence the new “Street Fighter” has a better chance at hitting it out of the park.
“I heard that it’s the story of just Chun-Li,” he said. “That has to make for a better picture. When we were making the original one, they insisted that all of the characters be in the movie. And if you do the math, that gives you about 7 minutes per character if you split it up equally.”
De Souza placed some of the blame squarely on Capcom’s shoulders, who kept asking the filmmaker to add new characters into the story — even after the script was finalized.
